Shannon Raine is an artist who has given up on menial jobs to devote her career to silk screening cards and clothing. She meets Garth Sheridan on the beach and mistakes him for an author or poet. Quickly disabused of this notion by Garth, Shannon is still attracted to him, even with his total lack of social grace.

Garth is the owner of an electronics firm in silicone valley. Past experience has left him very cynical and untrusting. Garth can see that Shannon is totally guileless and quickly enters into a relationship with her.

The problems begin when Garth insists on keeping Shannon and his corporate life totally separate. This proves to be unfulfilling for Shannon. When corporate intrigue threatens Shannon's credibility and her life Garth must rethink his decision.

Garth is very much a dark, brooding alpha male. Shannon justifiably gets annoyed with his assumption that she needs to be sheltered and protected. This was a reread for me, and I found Garth to be somewhat too cynical and overpowering, this time around. It is still quite an enjoyable book.
