As this book opens, Kendra seeks out casino owner Case Garrett in order to settle her
cousin's debt. Though they both feel a "spark" between them when they first meet, Kendra is determined to finish their business and be on her way. Having once been
victimized by a powerful man, Case is far too dark and dangerous for her.
Case is immediately intrigued by Kendra and resolves to learn all he can of
this "mystery" woman. He is able to convince her to stay for dinner, but
finds her unwilling to reveal much. Having no choice, he allows her to leave, but follows to find out who she really is.
He arrives at her hotel room to find an attempted assault has occurred,
with Kendra having defended herself quite admirably. Unfortunately, once the
assailant's identity is revealed, Kendra is made to realize that not only
is she still in danger, but her cousin is as well. Leaving her no choice, Case
takes over to ensure the protection of both Kendra and her cousin.
Typical of all Krentz's heroines, Kendra is a confident, strong-willed
character. Though she's been victimized in the past, she's determined to
overcome her vulnerability without becoming over confident. Case too is typical, which is why I so dearly love Krentz's books. He's pure alpha, but with a sensitivity that becomes all too apparent by books end.
I highly recommend Affair Of Risk.
