Possessing a talent for psychic mesmerism is useful if one happens to be an investigator for the Arcane Society but it is a great problem for a man who is in the market for a wife. Women, Thaddeus long ago discovered, are not particularly keen on so much as dancing with a gentleman who could easily rob them of their virtue unbeknownst to them. They most certainly are not interested in marrying a man who could control their minds, even if he is a member of the powerful Jones family.
